The Fort Smith Police Department encourages gun owners to take part in the Gun-Smart Program and help promote responsible gun ownership in the community

Fort Smith, Ark. – Fort Smith Police Department officials released the following statement:

“Lock up guns when not in use, and don’t leave them in your car, especially if they are visible.

By properly securing firearms, gun owners can prevent them from being stolen and potentially used for criminal activities.

Be GUN-SMART, and remove firearms from your vehicle or keep them out of sight.

9PM ROUTINE

• Lock up your car, house, windows, garage, gate, shed
• Turn on exterior lights, security camera, alarm system
• Bring in valuables from your car, yard, patio”
