The Arkansas Department of Transportation is lifting weight restrictions on multiple State Highways based on a recent pavement analysis

Fort Smith, Ark. – According to the state officials, weight restrictions are put in place to help maintain normal service and a state of good repair on highways.

The main causes for highway weight restrictions include significant increases in traffic, changes in environmental conditions, or changes in pavement conditions.

Periodically, ARDOT reviews highway weight restrictions to determine if the restrictions are still appropriate under current conditions.

As part of the evaluation, the pavement structural condition, traffic volumes, and adjacent land development are reviewed.

ARDOT has recently begun an evaluation of all weight-restricted routes on the State Highway System.

Based on this evaluation to date, the weight-restricted highway sections shown on the map have now been identified for removal of weight restrictions.
