Fort Smith, ARK – A house fire early Monday morning has claimed the life of one person in Pine Bluff. According to officials with Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services, crews were dispatched to a blaze at a residence in the 1000 block of S. Pennsylvania Street around 3:31 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames, with thick smoke pouring from the front of the structure. Some residents were already outside the house, but emergency responders were informed that one individual was still inside.
Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire, and during their search of the home, they discovered the victim in a front bedroom. Unfortunately, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained from the fire.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire likely started in the bedroom, and officials believe it was caused by a space heater. At this time, the identity of the victim has not been released, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services continue to gather information, and authorities are expected to provide additional details as the investigation progresses.
