Fort Smith to turn on Creekmore Park lights Monday afternoon

FORT SMITH, Ark – The city usually waits until the Friday after Thanksgiving, but crews will flip the switch a little early to give people more time to enjoy the sights.

Fort Smith has canceled the traditional celebration and Holiday Express train that usually brings thousands of people to Creekmore Park.

People who come to see the lights during the holiday season should stay inside their cars if possible, according to the parks department.

If they do get out of their car, they’ll will be asked to wear a mask, stay at least 6 feet away from anyone else, and obey one-way signs that guide visitors through the park.

Fort Smith has been lighting Creekmore Park for the holidays since 1993.

Fort Smith is one of several cities in Arkansas changing Christmas celebrations due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
