FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD) is grieving the death of retired Corporal Eric Lasiter, who passed away on January 24. Lasiter, a well-respected officer known for his unwavering dedication to service, left an indelible mark on both the police department and the local community.
According to a Facebook post by the FSPD, Lasiter’s contributions were felt long after his retirement. He continued to serve the public in a new role as a paraprofessional at Central Public Schools in Sallisaw. There, he was affectionately known as “Mr. Eric” by students and staff, who appreciated his dedication to supporting young people.
Beyond his career, Lasiter was a beloved father, brother, and uncle, and was known for his love of movies and music. His colleagues remembered him for his ability to bring joy to those around him, as well as for his deep commitment to his work and his community.
Captain Daniel Grubbs, who worked closely with Lasiter during their time together at FSPD, shared how Lasiter’s influence continues to impact current officers. “I honestly believe, coming from a man of faith, you’re chosen for this job,” Grubbs said. “You may put on the uniform, but having that servant heart and personality never changes.”
Captain Grubbs expressed his intention to carry on Lasiter’s legacy of service. “I want to continue serving the community, just like my forever partner in blue,” he said.
The FSPD and the community at large will continue to remember Lasiter for his dedication to both his career and to the people around him. His example of selfless service remains a guiding light for those who knew him.
