FORT SMITH, Ark – Online classes are not as easy to follow as they are in the classroom, and it’s showing.
However, Northside and Southside high schools have provided the opportunity for students who are failing at least one class to catch up.
Ginni McDonald, director of Secondary Education for the school district, gave a presentation on this to the Board of Education on Monday that showed both staggering statistics and an improvement from the school district’s On Track program.
The educator pointed out students are failing courses across the nation due to a lack of engagement in online classes. McDonald pointed out that the problem was not unique to the area, or to K-12, because higher education institutions have also seen the decrease of grades in their students.
