FORT SMITH – Two legendary athletes from the Fort Smith area.
Two former Northside High School Grizzlies.
Two former University of Arkansas standouts.
Two first-round professional draft picks.
One championship at stake.
Following nearly eight months of voting on social media outlets, the Greatest All-Time Athlete from the Fort Smith Area comes down to the final two.
Appropriately enough, it happens to be the top two seeds in the tournament. Number one seed Ron Brewer squares off against the number two seed, Matt Jones, for the title.
For the most part, both Brewer and Jones handily took care of business during the tournament against other legendary Fort Smith-area athletes.
Now, in one final showdown, Brewer faces Jones.
The final poll will take place in the coming week on both the Times Record’s Twitter and Facebook pages. In the event each wins a poll, the one with the highest percentage of votes in the winning poll will be declared the Greatest All-Time Athlete from the Fort Smith Area.
Here’s a closer look at the two finalists:
(1) Ron Brewer, Northside
Brewer became a legend on the basketball court at Northside.
As a point guard, he was the top scorer his senior season as he helped lead the Grizzlies to an undefeated season in 1974, going 30-0 and winning the Overall state championship.
