AGFC completes fish habitat improvements at Nimrod Lake to enhance angling opportunities

Arkansas – Anglers on Nimrod Lake in Yell County will benefit from enhanced fishing habitat following a recent project by Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) fisheries biologists.

The effort focused on installing artificial structures known as “Georgia Cubes” to improve conditions for fish, particularly crappie.

Constructed from PVC pipe frames and irrigation tubing, each Georgia Cube stands about four feet tall and provides durable, long-lasting cover for fish.

These structures create complex underwater environments that support fish populations by offering shelter and spawning areas.

Biologists strategically placed 20 Georgia Cubes across 10 sites in Nimrod Lake, with three locations upstream and seven on the main lake.

The structures were positioned in areas with significant contour changes or hard substrate edges to maximize their effectiveness.

Most are submerged at depths of 10-15 feet at normal pool level.

GPS coordinates for the new habitat sites will be available on the AGFC website.
