Third annual Be A Part of the Cure Walk held at UAMS

Little Rock, Arkansas – The third edition of UAMS’ Be A Part of the Cure Walk was held on Saturday morning at War Memorial Stadium.

The walk unites the neighborhood in support of those who have received a cancer diagnosis of any kind as well as their caregivers, families, and loved ones.

Participants were encouraged along the one-kilometer and five-kilometer routes by volunteers from various schools.

The walk’s proceeds are used to support cancer research here in Arkansas.

According to Dr. Michael Birrer, director of the Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the fight against various tumors is progressing favorably at the moment.

“The new drugs coming out, the new therapies change very quickly, and these are not just drugs that make the tumor go away for a bit and come back,” Dr. Birrer said. “These are therapies that cure patients, so we’re really doing much much better.”

About 1,500 people participated in the walk. The total amount raised for cancer research was almost $340,000.
