Arkansas – Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced $3,176,035 in financial assistance for water and wastewater infrastructure projects benefiting communities across Arkansas and serving more than 11,000 residents statewide.
According to the announcement, the funding will support four projects aimed at improving water and sewer systems, strengthening infrastructure, and helping communities prepare for future growth.
“Arkansas is growing fast because people and businesses believe in what we’re building here,” Sanders said, adding that reliable infrastructure is essential for both families and economic development.
State officials also emphasized the importance of continued investment in water systems. Wes Ward, Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture, said strong infrastructure is critical for public health and long-term economic stability. Chris Colclasure, Director of the Natural Resources Division, noted that consistent investment helps communities modernize aging systems and ensure reliable service.
Funding approved in the latest round includes:
- Gravel Ridge Suburban Improvement District #213 in Pulaski County: $976,035 loan for sewer collection system rehabilitation, serving 1,489 customers
- Oak Shadows Suburban Improvement District #249 in Pulaski County: $100,000 emergency loan for urgent sewer repairs, serving 51 customers
- Southwest Arkansas Water Facilities Board of Hempstead County: $100,000 loan for water system improvements and expansion, serving 866 customers
- City of Van Buren in Crawford County: $2,000,000 loan for water line improvements, serving 8,768 customers
Since taking office, Sanders has prioritized expanding and upgrading water infrastructure statewide, with nearly $2.8 billion in state and federal funding approved for related projects across all 75 counties.
In 2023, she also issued Executive Order 23-27, directing a comprehensive update to the Arkansas Water Plan. The first phase was completed in 2024, while the second phase is currently underway and expected to conclude in summer 2026.
