Fort Smith completes Highway 255 utility relocation project

Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith, Arkansas, announced the completion of the Highway 255 Utility Relocation Project near the Interstate 540 and Zero Street interchange.

City officials said the project involved relocating approximately 440 linear feet of water main infrastructure as part of the Arkansas Department of Transportation’s ongoing redesign and reconstruction of the I-540 and Highway 255 interchange.

The project was designed by Hawkins-Weir Engineers, Inc., while construction work was completed by Goodwin & Goodwin, Inc.

According to the city, the project was completed on March 12, 2026, at a total cost of $332,823.50. Officials noted the work finished 10% under the original contract amount and 18 calendar days ahead of schedule.

Funding for the project was provided through 2018 Revenue Bonds and was fully reimbursable through ARDOT.
