Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith announced the completion of an emergency sanitary sewer rehabilitation project near Cherokee Circle and Leigh Avenue.
The project followed the collapse of an 8-inch sewer pipe earlier this year, prompting swift action to restore service and ensure long-term system reliability.
The project was completed in two phases. In Phase 1, Vortex Services, LLC was contracted to perform a trenchless repair using the Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) method.
Once work began, crews determined that the site conditions made this approach infeasible. Instead, Vortex completed two emergency point repairs to restore proper flow at a cost of $130,000.
For Phase 2, Krapff-Reynolds Construction Co. was selected to fully replace the damaged main. The company’s proposal of $304,762 was the most cost-effective bid received.
The work included approximately 400 feet of new 8-inch sewer main, 180 feet of service line, and two manhole rehabilitations.
All work has now been completed, strengthening the area’s sewer infrastructure. The City of Fort Smith stated that the project reflects its ongoing commitment to maintaining critical infrastructure and meeting the community’s long-term utility needs.
