Arkansas – On Monday, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed SB182 into law, requiring local governments to continue operating under the previous year’s appropriation ordinance until a new budget is adopted.
The legislation was aimed at restarting payments for Jefferson County employees, who had gone unpaid for over a month due to the county’s failure to pass a budget.
The bill’s arrival at the governor’s desk came exactly one week after she announced her intent to sign it.
With the law now in effect, Jefferson County is required to resume paying its employees immediately.
