Fordyce School District Closes for Sanitization Amid Increased Absences

FORDYCE, Ark. — The Fordyce School District announced it will close Tuesday for sanitization after a notable rise in student and teacher absences. School officials stated that a deep cleaning of the campus will take place Monday night to address concerns over the spread of bacteria in classrooms and facilities.

The district’s decision comes as flu activity remains high across the state. According to the latest report from the Arkansas Department of Health, the state’s flu activity is at elevated levels, with the average school absenteeism rate nearing 10% for the week ending Jan. 25.

In response to the rising absenteeism, Fordyce officials decided to close the school for one day to ensure a thorough cleaning process. The school is expected to resume classes on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The closure is part of an ongoing effort to maintain a healthy environment for both students and staff as the flu season continues to impact schools throughout Arkansas.
