Fort Smith, Ark. – Fort Smith Water Utilities is actively addressing a 24-inch water main break near the intersection of Phoenix Avenue and Leigh Avenue, resulting in road closures and water conservation efforts.
Leigh Avenue between Phoenix Avenue and Airport Drive remains closed as crews work to repair the ruptured water line near Sodie’s Wine & Spirits. Officials expect the repair to continue through Monday or Tuesday.
Residents in the area may experience low water pressure during the repair process. To help manage the situation, the city has enacted Emergency Phase II Water Conservation Measures across Fort Smith. These measures prohibit lawn irrigation, washing vehicles, filling swimming pools, and other non-essential water uses until further notice.
Traffic is impacted in the vicinity, and drivers are advised to exercise caution and consider alternate routes.
Fort Smith city officials thanked residents for their cooperation and encouraged them to visit the city’s website for the full Water Conservation Program. Updates will be shared as new information becomes available.
