Fort Smith, ARK – A vehicle fire on Interstate 49 in Alma led to significant traffic disruptions on January 1. According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT), the fire broke out in the northbound lanes at mile marker 21, affecting the right lane and right shoulder.
The fire prompted authorities to respond quickly, as traffic slowed to accommodate the incident. Crews worked to contain the blaze and clear the area, but the disruption continued for a period of time as motorists navigated the scene.
At this time, no injuries have been reported in connection with the fire, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Traffic returned to normal after the fire was extinguished and the area cleared.
