Van Buren Woman Dies in Early Morning Crash on New Year’s Day

Fort Smith, ARK – A Van Buren woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash early on New Year’s Day, according to a report from local authorities.

Haley Foreman, 39, was a passenger in a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 near mile marker 1 when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The crash occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. on January 1.

Despite the dry and clear weather conditions at the time, Foreman did not survive the crash. The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a hospital in Fort Smith with injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet provided details on what may have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

This tragic incident marks the first fatal crash of the year in the area.
