Two people dead after hiking attack at Devil’s Den, children survive uninjured

Arkansas – A tragic act of violence at Devil’s Den State Park on Saturday, July 26, 2025, left a Prairie Grove couple dead and a community shaken. Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, were fatally attacked while hiking with their two young daughters. The girls, ages 7 and 9, were unharmed and are now in the care of family members.

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) received the initial call around 2:40 p.m., reporting a double homicide on a trail within the park, located in rural Washington County. ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has taken the lead in the investigation and confirmed that the Brinks were found deceased along a popular walking path.

Authorities have issued an urgent appeal to the public, especially those who visited the park that day, to review personal photos, videos, and GoPro footage for any images that might capture the suspect. Law enforcement is also requesting assistance from residents near the park to review any home security or wildlife camera footage.

On Sunday, July 27, ASP released an updated description of the suspect based on new information. He is described as a white male with a medium build, wearing dark pants, a dark ballcap, sunglasses, and a long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He was also seen carrying a black backpack and wearing fingerless gloves.

The man was reportedly spotted leaving the park in a black, four-door sedan, possibly a Mazda, with its license plate concealed by either electrical or duct tape. Investigators believe the vehicle may have been traveling on State Highway 170 or State Highway 220 near the time of the crime.

Officials are urging anyone with relevant footage or information to contact ASP Troop L at (479) 751-6663. Law enforcement strongly discourages sharing images or videos on social media, citing concerns that doing so could compromise the integrity of the investigation.

The area where the attack occurred remains closed to the public. The park’s rugged terrain, dense vegetation, and lack of cellphone reception have added challenges to the investigation.

Shea Lewis, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism, issued a statement expressing condolences and emphasizing visitor safety.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at Devil’s Den State Park,” Lewis said. “Our hearts are with the victims’ loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We have increased law enforcement presence in our state parks and remain committed to supporting the investigation.”

ASP Col. Mike Hagar also addressed the public, thanking the community and media for their cooperation. “We are using all available resources to apprehend this suspect and bring him to justice,” Hagar said. “The safety of Arkansans and our visitors is our top priority.”

The investigation remains active and ongoing, with state police working alongside local and federal partners to track down the individual responsible for what authorities are calling a “heinous crime.”
