Jonesboro, Arkansas – As they prepare to leave the location they have called home for years, Twilight Skating Rink is still looking for a short-term residence.
When it was first revealed that the rink was looking for a temporary home, co-owner David Veteto claimed that many people believed it had already closed.
“We were getting a lot of calls from people thinking we’ve already closed,” he said. “We’re not, we’re wide open.”
Veteto claimed to understand the significance of the rink to others.
“I know a lot of people that meet up here, wanting a place to meet. We don’t have a mall in this town anymore, you know. A lot of places are more expensive than we are to go to and hang out for several hours,” he said.
Despite being close to finding a permanent location for the rink, Veteto said he is still looking for a place to live into between November and the anticipated date of the rink’s relocation to its permanent location.
“When I first started, I was thinking it was just another business that I could run but after you meet all these people, they become family. You know you’re not going to see them again if the place closes, so for me, it’s like losing a lot of family members to me,” he said.
According to him, the rink is still available for gatherings because local businesses have contributed things for a silent auction in order to assist with the next phase.
The rink will remain open as long as feasible before November, according to Veteto.
