Shooting suspect captured after pursuit and shootout with Arkansas State Police

Arkansas – A suspect involved in a Tuesday afternoon shooting in Nevada County was taken into custody following a high-speed pursuit and exchange of gunfire with Arkansas State Police (ASP) Troopers.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) responded to a 911 call at approximately 4:55 p.m. on July 22 regarding a shooting at a residence on Arkansas Highway 200 in the Morris community. Deputies discovered a 47-year-old Rosston man suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim was airlifted to a Louisiana hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities identified the suspect as 35-year-old Daniel Wallace of Rosston and issued a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) for his vehicle, a white 2012 Chevy Tahoe. ASP’s Criminal Investigation and Highway Patrol divisions joined the search.

At around 6 p.m., Troopers located Wallace’s vehicle at a convenience store in Waldo. When officers attempted to stop him, Wallace fled, initiating a high-speed chase on U.S. 371 North. During the pursuit, he fired at pursuing Troopers. A tactical vehicle intervention temporarily stopped the Tahoe, resulting in a shootout that disabled two ASP vehicles.

The suspect, however, managed to continue driving until an ASP Special Agent arrived and rejoined the pursuit. After reaching the Willisville area, Troopers returned fire, striking Wallace and forcing his vehicle off the road and into a tree.

Following a brief standoff, Wallace was taken into custody at 6:29 p.m. and airlifted to UAMS in Little Rock for medical treatment. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
