Little Rock, ARK – A second victim has been confirmed dead following a tragic fire at the Midtown Park Apartments in Little Rock on New Year’s Eve. The first fatality was reported on January 3, and authorities confirmed the second death on Thursday.
The fire, which devastated the apartment complex, left over 100 residents displaced as they entered the new year. In response, the American Red Cross set up a shelter in Little Rock to assist those affected. As of Wednesday, 42 individuals were still receiving temporary housing at the shelter.
Captain Jason Weaver of the Little Rock Fire Department stated that the apartment building has been handed back over to management, with clear instructions provided on necessary repairs and upgrades to bring the facility back up to code. Utilities have been restored, allowing many residents to return to their homes.
However, residents whose apartments suffered severe damage in the fire are still unable to return and are being assisted by the American Red Cross with alternative accommodations and support. The organization continues to work closely with those affected, providing relief during this difficult time.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation as officials work to determine the full extent of the damage and ensure the safety of the building for all future occupants.
