Pine Bluff Community Mourns Loss of Young Man Killed in Shooting

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – A 21-year-old man, identified as Courtaurius Williams, was found dead early Sunday morning following a shooting at the West End Pool Hall, located in the 3300 block of West Second Avenue. Authorities responded to the scene just after 3 a.m., but Williams was already beyond help when they arrived.

Albert Brewer, a community leader and coach of the boxing organization Gloves not Guns, which works to reduce gun violence, expressed his deep sadness over the tragic loss. Brewer had known Williams well and had worked with him to steer local youth away from violence. He described Williams as a young man with potential, and said he was heartbroken to learn that he had lost his life due to gun violence.

“You do the best you can, but they still go astray,” Brewer shared. “This is a kid. We shouldn’t be burying our kids.”

Brewer’s organization focuses on using boxing as a tool to channel young people’s energy into positive outlets, with the goal of preventing violence and promoting community. Williams was part of the program, and Brewer’s emotional reaction to the loss underscores the deep impact the tragedy has had on the community.

Belinda Randle, another community member, voiced hope that the rest of the year would bring a shift toward positivity, urging others to stay cautious and vigilant. “We need to turn this year around,” she said. “Stay careful and watch out for one another.”

Pine Bluff police have identified Lamarion White, 19, as the individual responsible for the fatal shooting. White is currently in custody and faces a capital murder charge in connection with the incident.

Brewer emphasized the heartbreak that families like Williams’ must endure, and how important it is for the community to come together to prevent such tragedies in the future. “It’s just so painful,” Brewer said, reflecting on the loss. “We need less heartache, especially for parents.”

The shooting has left the community in mourning, and many are left questioning how they can better protect the youth in Pine Bluff from the ongoing cycle of violence. As authorities continue their investigation, the community remains united in its grief and determination to address the root causes of gun violence.
