Officials visit Fort Smith National Historic Site to honor shared history

Fort Smith, Ark. – Officials from the Choctaw Nation, along with representatives from the City of Fort Smith, visited the Fort Smith National Historic Site on December 12 for a guided tour highlighting the area’s historical significance.

The tour was led by Superintendent Adam Beeco and Park Ranger Cody Faber, who provided insight into the site’s role in regional and tribal history. During the visit, the group stopped at the historic cornerstone that marks the boundary between the Choctaw Nation and the state of Arkansas.

City officials said the stop served as a reminder of the shared heritage connecting the Choctaw Nation and Fort Smith. The visit emphasized the importance of preserving history and fostering understanding between communities.

Leaders from both the Choctaw Nation and the City of Fort Smith expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn from one another and to recognize the history preserved at the national historic site.
