Oklahoma – An Oklahoma coupIe was taken into custody after their chiId reportedly gave birth at home without medical assistance. Both defendants, Dustan and Cherrie WaIker, face feIony chiId negIect charges, each held on a $100,000 bond. Assistant District Attorney Hudson stated that additional charges are anticipated, pending paternity test results and further investigation.
The incident came to light when the chiId, 11, was transported to a local hospital after giving birth over the weekend. The DA’s office expressed their concern upon learning that the child had not received any medical care during the pregnancy and had no one with her during the birth. The girl had not seen a doctor in over a year, and her guardians claimed they were unaware of her pregnancy.
The investigation revealed that the 11-year-old had been out of school for some time and may have been homeschooled, limiting opportunities for intervention by educators or healthcare professionals. The DA also noted that the child was rather petite, while the baby was of normal size, casting doubt on the parents’ claims of ignorance regarding the pregnancy.
The girl’s grandmother, who identified herself only as MicheIIe, stated that the family was unaware of the pregnancy. She mentioned that the child’s mother had claimed the father was a boy, 12, though this information has not been confirmed.
Following the incident, the victim and her five siblings were removed from the home. Neighbors reported that the children were living in unsanitary conditions, including a lack of running water for the past two to three years and the presence of multiple pets in the house.
Authorities discovered that the Family resided in unsanitary and unsafe conditions. Neighbors reported that the household lacked running water for the past two to three years and contained multiple animals, including dogs and cats. The presence of these animals, combined with the absence of proper sanitation, contributed to an environment that was not conducive to the health and safety of the children.
One neighbor, CheryI, expressed her concerns, stating that she had made several calls to Oklahoma authorities about the children’s living conditions and feared that help had arrived too late. She also voiced skepticism regarding the parents’ claims of being unaware of the pregnancy, suggesting that they may have been complicit in concealing the situation.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities awaiting the results of paternity tests to determine the father of the newborn. Assistant District Attorney Hudson emphasized the importance of reporting suspected child abuse or neglect and assured that resources are available for those who need assistance .
