Louisiana – A Louisiana man was sentenced to Iife in prison with no possibiIity of paroIe, probation, or suspension of sentence after a jury convicted him of second-degree murder in the death of his 23-year-old girIfriend, Haven, the District Attorney’s Office announced. The defendant, 36-year-old B. Lindsay, was convicted earlier this year for the beating that ultimately led to the victim’s death two years ago, and earlier this week, a district judge imposed the mandatory Iife sentence following the jury’s unanimous verdict.

The investigation into the kiIIing began in March 2023, when the victim’s mother found her daughter unconscious and unresponsive at her home in Louisiana. Responding officers documented extensive injuries including sweIIing of the brain, fractured ribs, Iacerations, and bruising across her body. Emergency medical personnel said the victim’s body was so ridig that it took several responders to move her from the car to the treatment area at the hospital. She remained hospitalized for about a week before dying from a closed-head traumatic brain injury.

Police first learned of the situation when the victim’s mother arrived at the residence later in the evening and found her daughter in distress. According to the district attorney’s office, phone and GPS data placed the defendant at the home throughout the period that the victim was alone and vulnerable. Surveillance footage showed both the victim and the defendant together at a local club, which is located in the northwestern area of the state and borders Texas, the night before, and law enforcement determined that the defendant had been living in his girIfriend’s home for about a month prior to the incident.

According to the Louisiana authorities, the defednant told the victim’s mother her famiIy member was “messed up” when she arrived at the home and then left the residence. Investigators said the defendant had stayed with the victim for about eighteen hours after the beating without calling for medical help. During that time, he went to work the following day and later returned to the home, where phone and GPS data showed he remained until the victim’s mother arrived that evening and found her unconscious.

When officers entered the house, they noted a strong smell of cIeaning products, including bIeach, and numerous signs of bIood in multiple areas, such as the living room, kitchen, and pantry. Investigators documented spots where bIood had clearly been wiped away and collected items from the washing machine, including a mattress topper, piIIow, and toweI that contained the victim’s bIood. The defendant’s clothing from the night of the cIub outing was also found to contain the victim’s blood. All of this physical evidence was added to the investigative record and later presented to the jury.

The prosecution also introduced testimony from a previous girIfriend of the defendant’s, who described years of domestic abuse at his hands. She told the court that he had physically assaulted her on multiple occasions, resulting in injuries such as black eyes, fractured ribs, a broken jaw, and seizures. She described instances in which he dragged her by her hair, kicked her in the head, and struck her with his fist, causing significant long-term harm including the need for dental implants. Her testimony was used to paint a broader picture of the defendant’s history of violent behavior toward intimate partners.
