Lane closure on Old Greenwood Road remains in place due to ongoing excavation

Fort Smith, Ark. – A lane closure on Old Greenwood Road in Fort Smith remains in effect as crews continue excavation work at a manhole near Kelley Park Ballfields.

City officials say the closure is necessary for safety reasons, as the excavation site is close to the roadway, and vibrations from traffic could cause the trench to collapse.

The ongoing work is part of an infrastructure project aimed at addressing maintenance needs in the area.

Officials estimate that the project will be completed by April 9, 2025, weather permitting.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the area and plan for potential delays.

The city acknowledges the inconvenience and appreciates the public’s patience as crews work to complete the repairs and safely reopen the road.
