House fire in downtown Jonesboro under investigation

Jonesboro, Arkansas – House fire on Tuesday night is being investigated as a possible arson.

Officer Sam White said he was northbound on North Main around 9:30 p.m., according to the initial incident report Tuesday, Aug. 16, when a 37-year-old woman flagged him down.

The woman told White her house was on fire. He radioed dispatch who said the Jonesboro Fire Department was en route.

The home suffered $30,000 worth of damage, according to the report. The back porch and bedroom were “completely burned,” White stated. The kitchen walls and cabinets were also destroyed.

The victim told the officer that a 36-year-old Black man, whose identity was masked in the report, had set the fire. The man was described as being 5′6″ and weighing 150 pounds with short black hair and a medium build.

According to the report, the case is being investigated as a possible arson and first-degree terroristic threat.
