High-Speed Chase Leads to Drug Seizure in Little Rock

Little Rock, ARK – A high-speed pursuit on December 20th resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old man and the seizure of several illegal substances, including psychoactive mushrooms and marijuana, according to Arkansas State Police (ASP).

The incident unfolded at around 10 p.m. on Friday when ASP troopers attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 67 for a traffic violation. However, the driver, later identified as Malcolm Curry, reportedly accelerated to speeds of up to 130 mph, evading officers as he sped east on Interstate 40.

Authorities said Curry exhibited dangerous driving behavior during the chase, turning off his headlights while passing other vehicles on the highway shoulder. Despite the high speeds and risky maneuvers, the chase ended when Curry crashed his vehicle. He attempted to flee the scene on foot, but officers quickly apprehended him.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers discovered a large quantity of drugs, including 14 boxes of PolkaDot psychoactive mushrooms, 47 Ecstasy pills, two pounds of illegal marijuana, and three bottles of promethazine, a prescription medication often abused for its sedative effects.

Curry was arrested and faces multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance, fleeing, possession of drug paraphernalia, unauthorized use of property, and various traffic violations. He was transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center after receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.

The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of Arkansas law enforcement to combat illegal drug trafficking, with officials noting the significant amount of dangerous substances recovered during the stop.
