Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signs executive order to extend tax filing deadline for Arkansas counties affected by storms and tornadoes that struck the state on March 14

Arkansas – Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has signed an executive order extending the state income tax filing deadline for residents and businesses in Arkansas counties impacted by the severe storms and tornadoes that struck the state on March 14, 2025.

Under Executive Order 25-06, the 2024 tax filing and payment deadline has been extended from April 15, 2025, to July 31, 2025, for individuals and businesses in 17 affected counties. The counties include Baxter, Chicot, Clark, Fulton, Greene, Hempstead, Hot Spring, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Nevada, Phillips, Randolph, Sharp, Stone, White, and Woodruff.

The order follows a state of emergency declared on March 15, 2025, through Executive Order 25-05 in response to widespread damage caused by the severe weather outbreak. The governor cited Arkansas law allowing the suspension of certain regulatory statutes in emergencies to provide relief to impacted taxpayers.

The extension applies to a range of tax returns, including those for individuals, Subchapter S corporations, C corporations, pass-through entities, fiduciaries and estates, partnerships, and composite returns. Additionally, quarterly estimated income tax payments originally due between March 14 and June 30, 2025, have also been postponed until July 31, 2025.

Beyond tax relief, the executive order waives specific fees and penalties for residents in the designated counties. Fees for duplicate driver’s licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards have been suspended, as have penalties for late vehicle registration and fees for expedited title processing services. These waivers are in effect through July 31, 2025.

Governor Sanders stated that the extension aims to ease the financial burden on Arkansans recovering from the disaster by allowing them additional time to manage tax obligations without penalties. The governor’s office continues to monitor the situation and provide support to affected communities.

Residents and business owners in the affected areas are encouraged to utilize the tax relief measures. Further details on the executive order are available through the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration and the governor’s official website.
