Arkansas – Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders delivered the State of the State address on April 8 following the convening of the Fiscal Session of the 95th General Assembly, outlining priorities focused on education, public safety, economic growth, and government efficiency.
The governor opened her remarks by recognizing the late Representative Stan Berry for his decades of service, before highlighting unity and shared values across the state. She said Arkansas remains strong despite ongoing challenges and emphasized the importance of leadership in shaping the future for the next generation.
Education remained a central focus of the address, with Sanders pointing to progress made under the LEARNS Act.
She said reading scores have improved across most grade levels, teacher pay has increased, and Arkansas now ranks higher nationally in education.
The governor also highlighted expanded school choice options and programs aimed at improving literacy and supporting students with diverse learning needs.
Public safety was another key priority, as Sanders reaffirmed support for law enforcement and outlined investments in corrections, including additional prison capacity and efforts to reduce repeat offenses.
She said Arkansas has taken a different approach from other states by increasing funding and support for police.
Sanders also addressed economic initiatives, noting tax cuts, reduced government spending, and efforts to attract business investment. She said Arkansas has seen growth in jobs and population, along with maintaining a low cost of living.
The governor introduced initiatives aimed at helping vulnerable residents, including programs designed to move individuals from dependency to employment through community support and workforce development.
In closing, Sanders called on lawmakers to work together to pass a balanced budget, continue tax reductions, and preserve the state’s values. She said the goal remains to create opportunity, strengthen communities, and ensure long-term prosperity for Arkansas residents.
