Arkansas – Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders credited President Donald Trump with reversing what she described as the failures of the Biden administration’s border policies, arguing that the consequences of poor leadership can last for generations.
“It only takes one bad leader to create generations of chaos,” Sanders wrote on X. “Everyone in America should be grateful President @realDonaldTrump put a stop to this craziness.”
Her comments came after the White House shared images and video highlighting large groups of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border during former President Joe Biden’s administration. The White House post stated, “This is what was happening at America’s borders under Joe Biden. This is what Democrats support and defend. Never forget what they did, and what President Trump fixed on DAY ONE.”
President Trump also weighed in during remarks shared by the White House, warning voters that border security could once again become a major issue depending on future election outcomes.
“Remember that picture,” Trump said. “That’s going to be us in three years if the wrong side gets in… If the Democrats get in, you will not live a very good life.”
Sanders has consistently supported the Trump administration’s immigration agenda and has frequently argued that stronger border enforcement is essential to national security. Her latest comments echoed broader Republican messaging that contrasts current border conditions with those seen during Biden’s presidency.
The Trump administration has repeatedly pointed to declining illegal border crossings since returning to office. According to figures released by the White House, U.S. Border Patrol encountered approximately 6,070 migrants attempting to cross the southern border illegally in June 2025, a record monthly low under the current administration. White House officials also said no migrants were released into the country’s interior for a second consecutive month and reported a significant reduction in so-called “gotaways,” referring to individuals who evade law enforcement after crossing the border.
Trump administration officials have attributed the decline to a combination of executive actions, expanded enforcement measures, increased deportations, and stricter asylum policies implemented shortly after President Trump returned to office. They have also argued that enhanced border security has discouraged illegal crossings while disrupting human smuggling operations.
Supporters of the administration say the latest border statistics demonstrate the effectiveness of those policies and contrast sharply with the record numbers of migrant encounters reported during parts of the Biden administration. During several months between 2023 and 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection recorded historically high levels of migrant encounters along the southern border, fueling political debate over immigration enforcement and asylum processing.
Democrats, however, have argued that immigration trends are influenced by multiple factors, including regional instability, economic conditions, and seasonal migration patterns. They have also criticized some of the Trump administration’s immigration policies, arguing that they place greater emphasis on enforcement than humanitarian protections for asylum seekers.
Immigration remains one of the defining issues heading into the 2026 midterm elections, with Republicans continuing to campaign on border security while Democrats argue for broader immigration reform that combines stronger enforcement with changes to the legal immigration and asylum systems.
Sanders has frequently aligned herself with President Trump on immigration matters since taking office as Arkansas governor. Before becoming governor, she served as White House press secretary during Trump’s first administration, where border security was one of the administration’s signature policy priorities.
Her latest statement reinforces that message, arguing that the country has already seen the consequences of what she views as failed immigration leadership and praising Trump for taking swift action to tighten border enforcement after returning to office.
