FSPD to escort torch run for Special Olympics Arkansas as it travels through the city

Fort Smith, Ark. – The Fort Smith Police Department has announced that the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas will take place on Tuesday, May 20, beginning at 8 a.m.

The torch will be carried from the Walmart on South Zero Street to the Fort Smith Police Department before continuing along Garrison Avenue, North 11th Street, and Midland Boulevard.

Runners will then proceed toward Van Buren. The event will be escorted by police, with the outside lane of traffic designated for participants.

At 9 a.m., the torch will depart from the police department, making its way down Garrison Avenue.

Community members are encouraged to show their support by cheering on the runners, especially along Garrison Avenue between North 6th and North 11th streets.

The torch run is part of a statewide relay, with the flame traveling through various cities before arriving in Searcy for the start of the Special Olympics Arkansas Summer Games.
