FSPD honors 2024 award recipients for outstanding service

Fort Smith, Ark. – The Fort Smith Police Department formally recognized its 2024 Awards Recipients during a recent ceremony, honoring a range of personnel for their exceptional dedication and service throughout the past year.

Field Training Officer Justin Ritter was named Officer of the Year, while Officer Dawson Tabor received the Rookie of the Year award. Officer Luke Hartman was presented with the NAACP Guardian Award, highlighting his work in community engagement and equity.

Stephanie Lara was recognized as Dispatcher of the Year, and Malorie Restine was honored as Civilian Employee of the Year. Sgt. Danny O’Connor received the CrimeStoppers Award, reflecting his significant contributions to local crime-solving initiatives.

The Life-Saving Award was presented to Officers Mason Efurd and Blake Scott for their decisive actions that directly contributed to saving lives. Courtnee Harlan was also recognized with the Chief’s Special Award, reflecting her unique contributions to department operations.

Official Commendations were awarded to Captain Daniel Grubbs, Officer Terry Bourlon, Officer Brayan Espinoza, Dispatch Operator Kristin Kelly, and Officer Areille Michel for their professionalism and outstanding performance in the line of duty.

In addition to the awards, the department welcomed Chaplain Tanya Taylor to its team and paid tribute to the life and service of Pastor Don Hutchings, a former department chaplain remembered for his support and dedication.

The Fort Smith Police Department expressed its gratitude to all recipients for their commitment to the safety and well-being of the community.
