Fort Smith, Ark. – The city of Fort Smith, Arkansas, is set to host the 2nd Annual Fort Smith General Darby Challenge on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

The event will honor General William O. Darby and the city’s sister cities, Cisterna and Nago-Torbole, Italy, with multiple race options, including a ruck march, half marathon, 10K, and 5K.

The challenge is open to all participants, regardless of experience level, and offers an opportunity for the community to come together in a meaningful tribute. Runners, walkers, and ruck marchers will begin the challenge at 7:00 a.m. from Cisterna Park in downtown Fort Smith.

Organizers encourage early registration before March 31 to take advantage of discounted rates. All participants will receive finisher medals, with special recognition awarded to top finishers.

A special addition to this year’s event will be the Silent Mile, dedicated to honoring 94 Arkansas service members who served in World War II. The tribute also marks the 80th anniversary of General Darby’s death and the armistice of World War II.
