Fort Smith, Ark. – Fort Smith officials are advising attendees of the upcoming Thunder in the Fort event to take precautions due to expected high temperatures on Thursday.
Participants are encouraged to wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and stay well-hydrated throughout the event, avoiding alcohol to reduce dehydration risk. Those prone to heat-related illnesses are advised to consider staying home.
Shade will be limited along Garrison Avenue, especially around 5 PM, so attendees should bring essentials such as water, sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, light snacks, and personal cooling devices like handheld fans or cooling towels.
Parking options include free metered parking available in downtown Fort Smith. Note that South 7th Street between Parker and Wheeler Avenue will be closed from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM for the event.
The parade is set to begin at 6:00 PM, with road closures starting at 5:00 PM. The parade route will run from 6th & Garrison to 10th & Garrison. Attendees are encouraged to plan accordingly and stay safe during the festivities.
