Fort Smith Police receive Bible donation honoring late Chaplain Don Hutchings

Fort Smith, Ark. – The Fort Smith Police Department has received a special donation of Law Enforcement Bibles in memory of longtime police chaplain Don Hutchings.

The Arkansas Assemblies of God provided the donation during a presentation held at Evangel Temple, a church that held deep personal meaning for Chaplain Hutchings and his family.

Carol Hutchings, the chaplain’s wife, presented the Bibles to department members in a gesture honoring her husband’s years of service.

Chaplain Hutchings, who passed away in 2023, was widely respected for his spiritual guidance and unwavering support of officers and staff throughout the department.

Department leaders described the donation as deeply meaningful, calling it a tribute to a man whose faith and commitment left a lasting impression on Fort Smith’s law enforcement community.

The Bibles will be distributed among officers, detectives, and support personnel as a reminder of Chaplain Hutchings’ influence and compassion.

“Chaplain Hutchings was a source of strength during some of the most difficult moments our officers faced,” one department representative said. “His guidance helped many of us navigate the emotional weight of this profession.”

The Arkansas Assemblies of God expressed their hope that the Bibles would serve as a symbol of comfort and resilience for those who serve. Evangel Temple, where the donation was made, played a central role in Chaplain Hutchings’ ministry and life.

The Fort Smith Police Department shared their gratitude for the donation, emphasizing the impact that spiritual support continues to have within their ranks.

The memory of Chaplain Hutchings, they said, lives on not only in the Bibles now carried by officers, but also in the values he shared with the community he served.
