Fort Smith police participate in Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas

Fort Smith, Ark. – On May 20, 2025, the Fort Smith Police Department took part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas, joining other law enforcement agencies and community members in supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest public awareness and grassroots fundraising initiative for Special Olympics. In Arkansas, the event involves over 1,600 law enforcement officers who carry the “Flame of Hope” across the state, culminating at the Special Olympics Arkansas Summer Games.

The 2025 Torch Run officially began on May 19, 2025, with officers and athletes running through various communities, including Fort Smith.

The Fort Smith Police Department expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate, stating, “We are so grateful to this organization and the athletes who represent them for all they do for us!”

The Torch Run not only raises funds but also promotes inclusion and acceptance for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through events like this, Special Olympics Arkansas continues to provide opportunities for athletes to empower themselves and inspire their communities.
