Fort Smith Police invite public feedback ahead of CALEA accreditation file review in August

Fort Smith, Ark. – The Fort Smith Police Department is preparing for its third-year file review as part of its ongoing accreditation process with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The review is scheduled for August 2025.

As part of the accreditation protocol, the department has opened an online public comment portal to allow community members to share their thoughts or ask questions specifically related to CALEA accreditation. The initiative aims to increase transparency and ensure the department continues to meet high professional standards.

The portal, which can be accessed by visiting the Fort Smith Police Department website under “About the FSPD” and then selecting “Accreditation,” or directly at https://cimrs2.calea.org/375, provides an easy way for residents to engage in the accreditation process.

Department officials encourage all feedback to remain focused on CALEA-related topics, noting that community input plays a vital role in both departmental improvement and CALEA’s evaluation.

The Fort Smith Police Department has participated in CALEA accreditation to enhance service quality, accountability, and community trust through adherence to nationally recognized best practices in law enforcement.
