Fort Smith police invite public comment ahead of CALEA assessment starting May 1

Fort Smith, Ark. – Fort Smith Police Department officials announced that the agency will begin its CALEA Public Safety Training Academy Web-Based Assessment on May 1, 2026, as part of its accreditation process.

As part of the assessment, the department opened a public comment portal to allow community members to share feedback or ask questions related to the CALEA Public Safety Training Academy Accreditation.

Officials said the portal was designed to make it easier for residents to provide input during the evaluation period.

The comment portal is available through the department’s website by selecting “About the FSPD” and then choosing “Accreditation,” or by visiting the portal directly online.

Department officials asked that all comments and questions submitted through the portal remain focused on the CALEA Public Safety Training Academy Accreditation.

They said the feedback collected will provide valuable information for both the department’s administration and CALEA as they work to improve services and better serve the community.
