Fort Smith, Ark. – Fort Smith Police Detective Eric Restine was named the 2025 Sebastian County Officer of the Year during a statewide ceremony hosted by Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin. The event was held in Benton at the Benton Events Center and honored officers from multiple counties across Arkansas.
Detective Restine was nominated for his extensive and proactive contributions to public safety throughout the past year. In one notable incident, he responded while off duty to a double shooting on Dec. 23, 2024, using his prior knowledge of the suspects to assist investigators. His involvement helped lead to the issuance of warrants and appropriate criminal charges.
Officials said the detective also worked closely with the Fort Smith Public Schools Police Department to ensure district leaders were informed and prepared, strengthening communication aimed at protecting students and staff. His efforts were cited as an important step in improving coordination between law enforcement and school officials.
In addition, Judge Zuerker requested Detective Restine’s assistance with the Arkansas Group Violence Intervention program because of his experience handling juvenile offenders. Throughout 2024, his detailed knowledge of cases, supported by years of investigative work, played a key role in resolving violent incidents in Fort Smith and other jurisdictions, including Fayetteville, Springdale, Conway, and Little Rock.
Fort Smith Chief of Police Danny Baker praised the detective’s work, saying Restine consistently demonstrated dedication to public safety and professionalism. Baker noted that his efforts ranged from solving violent crimes to assisting agencies across the state and strengthening partnerships with local schools.
Detective Restine’s recognition places him among a select group of officers honored statewide for their service and commitment to their communities.
