Fort Smith, Ark. – Officers with the Fort Smith Police Department visited Cook Elementary School to celebrate Read Across America Week with students.
According to the department, Captain Harris, Corporal Solis, Officer Shoptaw, and Officer Williams spent part of their day at the school reading with students and discussing the importance of education.
Officials said the visit gave officers an opportunity to connect with students while encouraging a love of reading and learning. The department noted that events like the visit are an important part of community policing and help build positive relationships with young readers.
The Fort Smith Police Department thanked Cook Elementary for inviting the officers to participate in the celebration.
