Fort Smith Police Department honors promotions and accomplishments in pinning ceremony

Fort Smith, Ark. – The Fort Smith Police Department hosted a promotional pinning ceremony in its Community Room to recognize several officers for their accomplishments and dedication to service.

Captain Dillon Harris began his career with the department in 2013 as a Patrolman and served in various roles, including SWAT Team Member, Explosive Breacher, and Rappel Master. He rose through the ranks to become Captain, now serving as Support Services Division Commander.

Captain Robert Schibbelhut joined the department in 2006 and worked in both Patrol and the Criminal Investigations Division, with a focus on crimes against children and persons. He has also overseen Dispatch Services and Patrol Operations.

Captain Dewey Young started with the department in 1999 after serving in the U.S. Army. His career includes assignments in Patrol, the Criminal Investigations Division, and leadership positions as a Lieutenant and Sergeant.

Lieutenant Chris McCoy, who joined the department in 2006, has served in both the Criminal Investigations and Patrol Divisions, earning promotion to Sergeant in 2021 and Lieutenant in 2025.

Sergeant Derrick Dowdy, with the department since 2019, has served on Patrol Troop 2, as a Field Training Officer, on the SWAT team, and as a defensive tactics instructor.

Sergeant Justin Ritter began his law enforcement career in 1999, later joining the Fort Smith Police Department in 2016. He has been recognized as Officer of the Year and promoted to Sergeant in 2025.

The department commended the promoted officers for their dedication, professionalism, and positive impact on both the agency and the community.
