Fort Smith Police Department highlighted week two of citizen’s police academy

Fort Smith, Ark. – The Fort Smith Police Department provided a recap of the second week of its Citizen’s Police Academy, highlighting a range of educational and hands-on training opportunities for participants.

During the session, attendees learned about Animal Services, where officers explained their role in protecting both residents and animals, including responding to calls, managing stray animals, and promoting responsible pet ownership.

Participants also explored Community Relations Programs, gaining insight into how the department connects with the public through outreach events, education initiatives, and programs such as Food Patrol and Pawfficer Fuzz.

In addition, the academy included training on civilian response to active shooter situations. Officials said the session focused on awareness, decision-making, and personal safety during critical incidents.

Department officials noted they were encouraged by the engagement of participants and their commitment to learning more about law enforcement operations and community service.
