Fort Smith, Ark. – Fort Smith honored one of its hometown athletes last Friday by officially naming a portion of North 25th Street next to Northside High School Isaiah Joe Court.
Joe, a Fort Smith native and Northside High School graduate, went on to play college basketball at the University of Arkansas before reaching the NBA.
The city said the recognition celebrates more than Joe’s accomplishments on the basketball court. It also highlights his character, commitment to giving back to the community and the example he provides for young people in Fort Smith.
City officials thanked Joe, his family and community members who attended the ceremony celebrating the street naming.
The city said Isaiah Joe Court will serve as a lasting reminder to young people of what can be achieved through dedication and hard work.
Joe’s path from Northside High School to the University of Arkansas and ultimately to the NBA has made him a prominent figure in his hometown and a source of pride for the Fort Smith community.
