Fort Smith General Darby Challenge draws participants for weekend of remembrance and fitness

Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith, Arkansas highlighted strong community participation during the Fort Smith General Darby Challenge held this past weekend in downtown.

Participants from across the region gathered to ruck, run, and walk in honor of William O. Darby, a Fort Smith native.

The event featured multiple race options, including a half-marathon, 10K, and 5K, welcoming individuals of all fitness levels.

Organizers said the event brought together civilians, veterans, and active-duty military members, creating a shared space for both physical challenge and reflection.

The riverfront course also included moments of remembrance, such as the Silent Mile, which honored fallen service members.

City officials thanked participants, volunteers, and supporters for contributing to what they described as a meaningful and memorable event.
