Fort Smith completes major sewer system upgrade project ahead of schedule

Fort Smith, Ark. – Contractors for the City of Fort Smith have completed another infrastructure improvement project tied to the city’s Consent Decree requirements.

The project involved replacing approximately 9,250 linear feet of sewer mains using the open-cut method, along with 1,845 linear feet of point repairs and the replacement of about 139 manholes.

An additional 520 linear feet of sewer main was relocated as part of the work.

City officials reported the project was finished 129 days ahead of schedule and came in 22.58% below the original contract amount. The final contract cost totaled $6,189,317.36.

The work supports Fort Smith’s long-term infrastructure planning efforts, helping ensure the sewer system can continue to meet community needs.
