Fort Smith, ARK – A 76-year-old Eureka Springs woman died Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 23. The incident occurred around 3:50 p.m. when Hazel Jean Daines was driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee northbound. According to the crash report, her vehicle left the roadway on the right side and struck a tree.
Daines was transported to a nearby hospital following the crash but succumbed to her injuries. At the time of the accident, weather conditions were cloudy and dry, with no immediate indication of other factors contributing to the crash.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
