Downtown Fort Smith projects receive funding through city mini-grant program

Fort Smith, Ark. – Several downtown Fort Smith improvement projects are moving forward after Main Street Fort Smith awarded funding through its FY26 Mini-Grant Program, city officials announced.

The program awarded $16,000 in grants to support eight separate projects aimed at enhancing the downtown area. When combined with required matching funds and additional private investment, the grants are expected to generate more than $101,000 in total reinvestment into downtown Fort Smith.

According to the City of Fort Smith, the funded projects include façade improvements, lighting upgrades, historic preservation efforts, and other enhancements designed to improve safety and create a more welcoming environment for residents, businesses, and visitors. City leaders said these upgrades play an important role in maintaining the character of downtown while encouraging continued economic growth.

An award ceremony was held February 6 to recognize the property owners and businesses selected for the FY26 Mini-Grant Program. City officials praised Main Street Fort Smith for its continued commitment to revitalizing the downtown district and supporting local investment.

The Mini-Grant Program is intended to help offset the cost of improvements that preserve the historic integrity of downtown properties while addressing modern needs. Officials said the program not only improves the visual appeal of the area but also strengthens community pride and supports long-term development.

City representatives congratulated the grant recipients and emphasized that partnerships between the city, Main Street Fort Smith, and local property owners remain essential to ongoing revitalization efforts. They noted that continued investment in downtown Fort Smith helps ensure the area remains a vibrant and active part of the community.
