Dog found in Arkansas and returned to Florida with its owner

Hot Springs, Arkansas – A dog managed to escape from its Florida backyard and ended up all the way here in Arkansas.

It was reunited with its owners once again with the use of a microchip.

“I was just full of joy – I almost cried, it was really sad but I was sad and happy at the same time,” dog owner Louis Gonzalez said.

Storm, a husky owned by Louis Gonzalez and located in Florida, escaped the fence after being allowed out to use the restroom and went missing for days.

“I was the whole day, I called off work and it was a whole day looking for her on the streets on Facebook to see if anybody had posted her,” Gonzalez said.

She ended up spending nearly 20 hours away from her home at the Hot Springs Animal Shelter as the days grew into weeks.

When the dog’s microchip was scanned, it revealed Louis as the owner.

The only thing that made the reunion possible was the microchip.

“It was like you haven’t seen a family member in years,” Gonzalez.

“1,230 miles is amazing, in a week and a half to two weeks and we are just thankful and blessed that he was reunited with the animal,” Hot Springs Animal Village Lieutenant LeeAnn Zaner said.

The microchip, according to both Louis and LeeAnn, was the only factor in their eventual reunion.

“We really encourage all owners to microchip their animals because this right here, the reunion would’ve never been possible,” Zaner said.

“I’m happy right now because I finally got to see my dog again after so much time that has passed by,” Gonzalez stated.

Louis said Storm is doing well, but she is working to get her health back to where it needs to be.
