Conway, Arkansas – Conway police have closed the professional standards investigation into an incident that resulted in a man dying in police custody, the department reported Monday.
The department said that the Office of Professional Responsibility and command staff thoroughly reviewed all the facts and circumstances relating to the death of Lionel Morris, 39, and have addressed any personnel and policy issues. Specifics into the investigation were not available.
Morris died shortly after being arrested at a Harps grocery store in February, according to police. An internal investigation was started to determine if the officers involved broke policy or if there were any rule violations.
Prosecuting Attorney Carol Crews said the officer’s use of force was justified and reasonable given the circumstances. Crews went on to say if Morris had submitted to arrest, his death could have been avoided.
